Garcinia gummi-gutta is a tropical of Garcinia native to Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and Africa. Common names include Garcinia Combogia as well as Brindle-Berry, Malabar Tamarind, and Kudam Puli (Pot Tamarind). The fruits look like a small pumpkin and are green to yellow in colour.

It’s normally the size of a large Tomato but can grow to Grapefruit size, after it’s sun-dried and smoked, the blackened fruit, called Kodampoli, gives a tart, smoky flavour to curries.

Garcinia Cambogia contains a compound called Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) that may prevent an enzyme that helps the body store fat. HCA is an active ingredient to be amenable for most of its weight loss benefits.
